Corey Beck refers to this Claret as 'the flag ship in the diamond series'. He describes it as 'lush with a tapestry of smooth tannins and succulent flavors of wild berries, plum and anise'.
Needless to say, I was fairly excited about my blind date with this Claret. Unfortunately, (like most blind dates...) he looked better on paper than in person. I found the tannins relatively smooth, but really the predominant feature of this wine. Wild berries, plum and anise- not so much.
We finished dinner, but the conversation was awkward. I found myself complimenting his black and gold label and the commenting on the clever and appealing finishing touch of gold mesh.
We were cordial when we shook hands and said goodnight, but we did not speak of meeting again.
