We Have Pyromaniacs in Southern California

They wait in their mother's basements all year long in anticipation of the hot, dry Santa Ana Winds. It is a joyous time for them as they can finally take a break from video games and internet trolling and actually go outdoors and create havoc of a different kind; fire. I picture them pasty white, squinting from the sun, standing on some seldom used mountain road with their pants down around their ankles lighting matches (with the free hand...) and throwing the flaming heads into the brush until it 'catches' before they gleefully hop back into their spray can painted 1980's Hyundai's and peel out like squealing rats headed back to their subterranean hovels.

Here is a sadly beautiful sunset through the smoke of many fires....

THIS time it's different though. Something is about to happen that will literally dampen their joy.
