Roll Roll Rocks

This is the wondrous Sang Kyu Shin.

In spite of the fact that his wife just had their 3rd baby, he found the energy to open Roll Roll about 4 months ago ( the Mrs. is staying with family in Daegu, South Korea until June so he doesn't get confused and put a sushi roll on the new baby during a 3 a.m.diaper change!).

So, he is very brave to be here all alone, works hard and he waits patiently to be reunited with his loving family (he Skypes whenever he can ) but stands up to the isolation by making great sushi rolls and manning the helm at the best sushi joint on all of Ventura Boulevard!

His cute little restaurant is immaculate, humble and inviting.

Here is one example of Sang's culinary creativity;
This is a roll called 'Medi Lobster' (inspired by his faithful sidekick, Mehdi). Spicy tuna wrapped in soy paper with black and white sesame seeds, topped with perfectly toasted and caramelized crayfish (little lobsters!) and lightly sprinkled with fresh spring onion. (I loved his presentation with the flames!). The dish itself is rich and nutty while the flames add a kick of spice and extra deliciousness.

You can tell by these flowers that Sang has a sentimental side, so here's the part where
I tell you that his wife's name is Jayeon which means 'Nature' in Korean. Isn't that beautiful?
His children are Joshua, Joel and baby girl Dylan.

As a surprise one day, Sang made me this dessert! Quartered tempura strawberries in each corner (they taste like hot, light, tiny strawberry pies!), a scoop of cherry ice cream, a scoop of green tea, fresh cubed oranges and two little blooms of whip cream- decadent and delish! He told the BF that he calls the dessert 'My Love'. (Not sure if he's going to actually last without wifey till June... I think we'll need to keep an eye on him).

Bottom line? The food is delish, the prices are cray-cray. Go NOW!
