Haagen-Dazs Black Cherry Amaretto Gelato

I broke up with Haagen-Dazs a long time ago. In the beginning, I loved the quality and simplicity of ingredients, but I grew bored. Once they raised the bar in the market, there blossomed so many other interesting and bold boutique ice-creams and gelatos that it was always a pass when it came to this brand. The flavors were pedestrian and frankly, just not worth the calorie load.

Today, on one of my dreaded and forced trips to The Mall (don't ask...), I happened to pass a Haagen-Dazs kiosk and lo and behold, I spotted something different; gelatos.

Stracciatella, sea salt caramel, dark chocolate chip, limoncello (dying to try this one;  lemon gelato with vodka!), the ubiquitous (and probably perfect) vanilla and an unbelievable cappuccino (tasted this one and was blown away). I decided on the black cherry amaretto. Wow. Lovely. The cherries were rich, flavorful, chewy and dark, the gelato was mildly sweet and hinted just enough of amaretto. I was so pleased with my little cone that I almost don't feel bad about having to skip dinner because it was 500 calories!

Phew!
