These are pics of a high school I visited a few days ago. I was struck by the overtly institutional quality of the place and as I wandered around I kept asking, 'Is this a reform school or something?' No, no, they assured me, this was just a typical high school.

'Really?' I asked, 'This is where adolescents spend their days in preparation of the greater world? To me it looks like a prison.'

'That's just because there are no kids here!', they said.'Look, there's a courtyard!'

'Oh yes, I see it- the prison courtyard with the indestructible tables and immovable umbrellas....', I answered. I stepped away from the group and tried to imagine myself as a student here. Although it was a large 'campus', it felt closed and oppressive.
My eye fell upon these sad, degraded, nearly painted over tiled columns.
