I've never been afraid of the dark. To me it feels like snow. Everything is very quiet and intimate- almost private even in the middle of the city. The social rules are different too, there are no smiles or fleeting eye contact to acknowledge a passing stranger. At night everyone knows the drill; alert (but not flinchy) eyes ahead, no sketchy movements, no intrusions into someone else's 'bubble'. Unless you are a convenience store clerk or a daylight friend, when it's dark there is no personal trespassing allowed.
